Making Dance Accessible to Kids

The Sacramento Ballet’s Leaps and Bounds Program has expanded greatly since its inception in 2007. Currently, the program takes place at two Title 1 schools in mid-town Sacramento: William Land Elementary and Language Academy of Sacramento.
Leaps & Bounds provides the opportunity for students to participate in an immersive creative-arts training experience, introducing the students to a professional ballet production, and concluding the experience with a performance in front of an audience. Our program is also designed to fulfill the current K-12 Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) standards of the California Department of Education.

Specific elements of Leaps & Bounds include:

• Year-long dance classes offered at no cost to the students following curriculum developed by the School of Sacramento Ballet.
• Dancewear and supplies provided free of cost to the students.
• Visiting The CLARA Studios to watch Sacramento Ballet’s dance creation process in action.
• Each student, and their parent, are provided free tickets to attend a live performance at the Community Center Theater.
• The class will perform in the School of Sacramento Ballet’s end of year showcase.
